This sounds like exactly what I was hoping it would be: a fun, silly, old-school wrassling game. Something good for local multiplayer and adult beverages.

@SisypheanLife I have not played a wrestling game since they had them at arcades and I picked this up, I must agree it's great with beer and friends, just good ol arcade beat em up.

@SisypheanLife

This is exactly right. I had the most fun with said 'adult beverages' and a bunch of friends doing ridiculous moves with the old N64 and Gamecube wrestling games. This feels exactly like that in spirit.

@SisypheanLife they make these once every console generation...the last one was Legends of Wrestling. Reminding me of that old NES All Pro Wrestling game from back in the day.

@CynicalStrike Revenge is my favorite. Too be fair Wresltemania 2000 and No Mercy were technically superior games and also rocked. Where else couls Special Agent Dale Cooper and Ol Dirty Bastard wrestle each other?

I played a demo of it in Best Buy. It's kinda silly at times, like when the undertaker lifts Andre the Giant with one hand, but I didn't play it with a serious tone, so it came off as humerous and pretty enjoyable when it wasn't friggin awesome.

I played the demo. The game seems enjoyable, but the Smackdown feel of olde still isn't there.

The character movement still isn't fast enough and the control setup is questionable. I had trouble with the reversal system, but I think I could eventually get used to it. I don't like how to reverse a grapple it takes two buttons when it should really only take one.

I may pick this up when its cheaper or just wait for a sequel. Seems like a lot of critics are enjoying it.

Nice review, I'm definitely going to see if they have it in. I only play the SvR series nowadays just for Create-A-Wrestler mode, so I'm glad it's in this game in some fashion.
And yeah, this'll probably make the rounds on gaming night before a karaoke/ROCK BAND or DANCE CENTRAL flips on. :D

Not a fan. The load times are terrible and the game still feels slow. I was expecting over the top tom-foolery and what I get is TNA Impact with prettier visuals. I was expecting an arcade type wrestler and this is not it.

Aside from the mentioned gripes (I can understand no ladder matches and divas, but the CAW is a little boring) this game is amazing. A bunch of my friends and I were playing last night until 2am and we didn't want to stop. And I think we're going to repeat this tonight!

Very fun game. It's deep (counter blocks? Combos? Grapple chains??) but really easy to pick up and just punch and spaz out and fluke out victories.

Watched a quicklook of this last night and I can't believe I'm actually considering getting this. A good modern wrestling game in my THQ? I don't even care that 40% of the roster mean nothing to me. Never thought it would happen.

Can you say "scripted" instead of "fake." That's what it is, it's scripted. Many, if not all of the moves they do are REAL they just hold back on them. Yes, I'm a wrestling fan but the wrestlers are real athletes. "Fake" just sounds so... demeaning.

Scripted, yes... Fake? No.

Seriously, everything on tv is "fake".

Jack Bauer wasn't really running around shooting terrorists, & Hurley wasn't really on the island either.

Why don't you call those games "a strange, slightly silly pursuit: creating a realistic replica of a fantasy"?

@Im No Hero I'm not sure you get what I mean. Regardless of whether or not wrestling is "scripted" what's going on in the ring is real. The moves are real. The only thing "fake" about wrestling is that the outcome is already decided before the show takes place.

Pro-Wrestlers are every bit the athlete as baseball or football players, it takes just as much skill to put on a good match and not kill each other with the moves you do as it does to pitch a no hitter.

I mean, read some of the interviews with sports stars who tried their hand at wrestling.

The WWE (and TNA... although I don't watch that much) is a male soap opera and the feuds and whatnot are fake.. yes, but whats going down in the ring is pretty real, just scripted so no one gets hurt.

I don't know, maybe it's silly but I respect pro wrestlers... and to say what they do is "fake" just... doesn't sound right to me.

"Pro wrestling is real, people are fake."

I completely understand what you were saying.

My point was that wrestling is always called "fake", but everything on tv could be called "fake".

Wrestling always gets singled out for some reason.

Hey, can anyone tell me how the game controls/plays? I loved the old N64 THQ engine. Is it like that? Or is it like street fighter where you just punch eachother to death?

Not more like streetfighter.

If you want to grapple there are pure grapplers. Mr. Perfect, Bret Hart, etc. They will grapple you to death.

Must buy for any fan of the THQ Wrestling games. From WCW World Tour to WWF No Mercy (I think that was the last one), this game oozes nostalgia.

The controls are VERY similar to those great games.

I got the game. This game has dlc written all over. Lots of superstars are not here...Kevin Nash,Rick Flair, Mick Foley, iron sheik, divas and road warriors just to name some. I don't know if it was the license but they need to add this for the next game or dlc. It is really arcadey and fun. I wish the character creation was deeper especially making move set. If you want to try something fun or tired of the yearly smackdown games try this game out.

Flair and Foley are in TNA so no chance of them being in Allstars. Nash I heard is gonna be Smackdown! 2012, he signed a Legends contract with THQ I believe. I would love to see the following legends: Ron SImmons, Rick Rude, Lex Luger, Bradshaw, Goldust, Road Warriors, DOA. I don't think divas will ever be included be wouldn't seeing Trish, Sable, Torrie Wilson, Sunny, as DLC maybe valets.

I'm with you, man. I don't get people who are into wrestling or, even worse, wrestling games. I realize it's part of the American culture, and most people enjoy it just for the sake of it, but there's really no excuse for the games. They're all slow, with dated graphics and gameplay mechanics. I feel like I'm walking into a time machine whenever I'm playing one of those games.

P.S.: Pit Fighter > all of the WWE games combined.
