I take it you didnt read the very negative review then? Im surprised at the 3 stars. I played it and would barely give it 2.

Maybe he can make up his own opinion. Not everyone needs to have someone tell them 'Hey this is good!'

@Billlop Well that's something, 'cause I've played it too and I'd give it at least a four. The "very negative" review didn't even touch upon the DNA System or the startling variety of weapons (everything from handguns to grenade launchers and satellite guns to Lightning's Blazefire weapon) that, in turn, have many different customisation options. It only vaguely mentioned the helicopters you can Overdive into in later levels, too.

It's actually quite fun, even with the repetitive levels and sometimes-absurd health of enemies. I'd say, aside from those two shortcomings, the only real problem with the game is the convoluted story that I still don't entirely understand.

I picked it up a week ago and love it. Lots of replayability and nice use of rpg elements that they failed completely to mention in the review but other then that its spot on but its Square/Enix so wasn't thinking it'd be super innovative.

Wow I agree, my PSP collection is outpacing the rate at which I can complete these games.

But I'd never buy this game considering the poor reviews its gotten. I wouldn't waste my money on that. All the people who throw money at things will say "oh but don't let other peoples opinions stop you..." etc. but at the end of the day this is a £30 game. I'm not going to risk that £30 when I could buy something decent. Which the PSP has plenty of.

@Cleric given that amazon buyers also gave it somewhat abysmal reviews, I'd pass on it.

If you have such a backlog, why do you "need" to pick this up "soon?"

If it's a good game now (and this review does nothing to push that theory forward) it will still be a good game in 6 months when it costs half as much and you've caught up on a few other games you were once just as overhyped about.

Spend your money however you like, but this compulsive notion of "need" is pretty silly.

@Gaddes Seriously, this felt like such a disappointment, especially after replaying PE1. Then again, the clothes = health mechanic should've quickly tipped off who the game was aimed at.

You shouldn't always use things like that as indicators though - a lot of amazing shmups have loli characters.

@TacoHell It's not really a mechanic. the clothes don't regenerate as your health does. (And considering the game-verse, it makes totally sense that she would regenerate.)

I'd have to say my biggest problem with the game is that the heroine is not Aya. Where's the cool, calm, collected badass who, armed with a cocktail dress and a 9mm pistol, confronted a woman SETTING PEOPLE ON FIRE WITH HER MIND. Who is this whimpering, spineless, stereotypical anime girl that's stolen her name? If 3rd Birthday came out and they hadn't used the name Aya Brea, I'd probably like the game more As it stands? 2. 2.5 if I gave halves just because of the initial novelty of the overdive mechanic.

@TheFilmTwit I could explain to you exactly why this is the case, but it's a gigantic spoiler. Trust me, they didn't mess up Aya at all.

I find it kinda boring. Walking through the same corridors over and over and over again doesn't exactly sound as my way of fun. Nice graphics though.

Part of me blames the transition the game took from Mobile Phone to PSP. The level designs and how the game unfolds certainly seems like a fit for "episodic mobile phone games" ala the Turks FF game in Japan.

Matter of fact, the same effect can be seen with Kingdom Hearts: Decoded, or whatever... mobile-phone game turned handheld game. Fun sure, but it isn't of the typical quality you'd expect.

I think the story was awesome. I've found a surprising correlation between people complaining about it, and people saying that they didn't read any of the files, and don't really understand the ending.

Make no mistake, this is Parasite Eve 3. It fits in nicely after Parasite Eve 2. It furthers the story in a major way that you won't fully grasp until the ending.

The soundtrack, cutscenes and the graphics are almost surely the best seen on the system. Let that sink in for a minute because it's really not an exaggeration.

The controls work extremely well for a PSP shooter. Hexa Drive teamed up to make this with SQEX, consisting of key members from the Devil May Cry 3 team - and it shows. The lock on shooting works extremely well, as do the cover system, the body swapping, and everything else. The controls are superior to Peace Walker, as are the graphics and the soundtrack. Lots of environments look like they would fit in with DMC3, but graphically superior.

The game has a lot of replayability, with a significant list of costumes, cheats, guns, powers, and upgrades to unlock and level. In addition, there are 3 difficulty levels above normal.

I can't stress enough how much people have just fallen asleep at the wheel and completely missed the story. And all of the people complaining that Aya is too weak in this one should see the ending, because they would realize that they're wrong.

5/5, one of the best titles on PSP. And for the discounted release price of $28-30, it's really a steal. Most people rating this game down don't even like the PSP, and never play it.

@Shinta I appreciate what you're saying. However, the idea that many people fell asleep at the wheel, which is why they failed to grasp the story, could also implicate this game in negative light. Why are so many people falling asleep at the wheel?

While I agree that certain plots, especially convoluted ones, take a certain degree of active-thinking to grasp and understand, they should also be accessible to a wide audience in order to earn critical acclaim. From what I'm reading about this game, the plot seems suited to a niche audience since it's clearly getting missed by most, but really appreciated by a few.

Perhaps we have a cult-classic in the making?

...which is bizarre to me considering they didn't release Parasite Eve 2 prior to 3 on PSN.

...I've never had a chance to play 2 and kinda wanted to see them in order but...

@Kade Storm

People fall asleep cause it's boring. I've only beaten the first boss, but so far I've ran through the exact same corridor at least 15 different times and fought the same 2 enemy types more times than I can count.

Maybe the game gets progressively better later on, but from the few hours I've sunk in, I'm already starting to get fed up.

Also I did read all the files that were available and the story still makes no sense!

No surprise there. Despite their reputation among fanboys, Square consistently tells moronic stories badly. They just tell them with pretty pictures.

@Shinta Actually, this games status as a strictly being a spinoff and not being a continuation of the first 2 games has been confirmed in an interview with the the team responsible for it's entire creation.

There is far too much that isn't explained in the game and nothing in it even tries to explain it.

The last time a game derailed from it's roots this badly was when Capcom made Devil May Cry when they intended to make Resident Evil 4. Square Enix could of done the same thing if they changed the characters names and didn't promote it as a Parasite Eve spinoff.

Finished the game and I think it's good if you like shooter with RPG elements. Scenes, soundtracks and graphics are very good but the story was kinda bad. It could've been much better on HD consoles though.

If compare this game with the rest of the series, it sucks. If you consider it a full new game, its OK.

Im gunna try it down the road. I like my PSP and love getting new games occassionally to use it. Nothing Ive personally seen has me turned off from it, so I think Im going to make my own decision here.

Plus a 3 aint bad. Better than 1/2.

first of all loved the game,i do not understand why people think the story is bad or boring,it is great storyline and much more is at at stake then "personal tragedies" as the reviewer mentioned, and the story connects with 1 and 2 in some cases,it is one of the best psp games out there,P.S check the ending and find out why aya is portrayed as "weak and scared" character,it will surprise you,honestly..

Was nice to see both titles at 29.99 considering square is usually all about going with the regular MSRP no matter what.
