Sony & S3 announced that the PSP will make use of the S3TC texture compression technology.
S3TC compresses textures into very small files while maintaining a high level of detail and contrast. Although it's not
the newest of these technologies, it's a trusted brand used frequently for the Xbox and GameCube. Despite the official
announcement being made only yesterday, it's more than likely that some developers have already been using the
technology for their PSP titles. Coupled with the recent news of another PSP technology, curved surface rendering, the
SC3T should allow for some pretty awesome capabilities. Stay tuned for more PSP tech news as GDC Europe & the
Austin Games Conference unfold.
