PSP at "high risk" for delay!

And this is no ordinary delay. We're talking November 2005 for the US release! So where is this latest speculation generating from? Good question. Industry analysts PJ McNealy of American Technology Research and Piper Jaffray & Co. are projecting the delay, citing both hardware and software concerns. Most notably, is the battery life issue, which has been estimated to be as low as 90 minutes. On top of the hardware issues, it's unlikely that a significant software library would be available in time for Sony's planned release dates of December (Japan) and March (US). Stay tuned for an official announcement from Sony.

Heh, even though I hope its not true, I'm not surprised. Sony's been hyping every single aspect of the PSP EXCEPT the battery life - all they've given is cryptic numbers off the cuff ("10 hours for game, 8 hours for music, 2 hours for movie") and crap like that.
Sony's battery technology usually seems pretty good too, but I guess having PS2-like tech (read: home console tech) compressed into a handheld sucks battery way more than they ever anticipated.
nuts.

Sony did this mess with the PS2. They promised the PS2 for years and delayed and delayed. People didn't buy the Dreamcast because the PS2 was right around the corner when, in fact, it was still a year away. That whole year, gamers missed out on a whole slew'a GREAT games because they were already hooked on the vaporish PS2 which, once it launched, took another year before it had anything halfway decent. More than two years of gamer's time was wasted while they waited on Sony to get their act together.
I'm not gonna waste my game time.
I'm gettin' a Nintendo DS. It is cheap, affordable and available in November. I am not going to wait another year or more for some vapor that is "right around the corner" while Sony gets its act together. That whole time the Sony fanboys are pining over their handheld system and playing on their underpowered PS2, I'll be playing AWESOME Nintendo games on my DS on the subway wirelessly with other DS owners.
