I'm still working my way through Star Wars Battlefront, and enjoying it. I find it tough to review since I'm not
privvy to Battlefield 1942, which is the game most people compare this new Star Wars title to.
So in a weird attempt to show you what I think, I'm going to write up some impressions and then send you to Avault.
Keith Durocher's review does a great job of wrapping up the sense I get from playing Battlefront.
The game is far too simple in some respects. You can jump into the action and immediately figure out the controls, the goal and (sometimes, unfortunately) the enemy AI. But for a a Star Wars experience, it?s hard to match. The battles can seem epic, with ships flying overhead, AT-ATs pounding toward you, streams of the enemy flowing over the hills. But there are elements lacking, such as weak, sometimes confusing, online play, and, well, nuance. You know that feeling you get in a shooter when you pick up a new gun that just feels right? I didn?t get that in SW:B. The weaponry is just a tad too bland for my tastes. The vehicles, however, make up for this shortcoming. The X-Wing/Tie Fighter battles may be more like thegame Rogue Squadron than the classic X-Wing and Tie Fighter titles, but that?s more than good enough to make you want to come back for more. I?d recommend the game to anyone who loves Star Wars, anyone who has always wanted to participate in a Hoth battle, or anyone who?s yearned to take out an Ewok with a sniper rifle. Read the Avault review. No, I didn?t write it, but I feel like I could have.
