WHEE! Marketing departments fling insults!
There's only one thing more amusing than watching a couple of ninth grade nerds get in a slap-fight over a Raspberry Capri Sun — and that's a couple of marketing types spitting vitriol at each other. Sony and Nintendo reps sometimes seem to understand how silly they sound. A little smirk may accompany their zippy words. Sometimes they don't. Here's a good example of a time when they don't. It looks like Nintendo is pretty pissed off about the low price of the Sony PSP. Our guess is that they're just about the only ones on the planet who are pissed off about it, though.

Anyone else think that the PSP was intended to release at this price range all along (around $200)? I mean, really think about that... lots of people cringed at $150 for the DS - as much as a console. So all along Sony is saying "$300 to $500" for the PSP... AND THEN...
*GASP* Only $200?!?!?!
Doesn't that suddenly seem like a bargain?
I have a hard time believing they finally found a way to cut corners to the tune of $200 per system, and with today's competitive markets - and prices - I could easily see them trying to pull a fast one by making the PSP only appear to be a great deal.
It sure does look nice though ;)

The under $200 price point may seem like a deal, but the PSP looks too fragile to make it worth the money. Part of the reason the gameboy is so fantastic is that it's practically indestructible. And, should you destroy one, it'll only cost about $100 to replace. I don't want a portable game system that I have to handle with kid gloves, I want one i can chuck in my bag and beat up a bit. The PSP doesn't look like it would take that kind of abuse and, at $200, doesn't look cheap enough to immediately replace if/when it gets broken. And how much will games for this puppy cost, anyway?
