A follow-up to the critically acclaimed, Allied Assault, is no easy task, but EALA has
attempted to do just that, releasing Pacific Assault onto the PC this week. The Medal of Honor series returns to the
war in the Pacific, pitting you against the Japanese as you assume the role of a young US marine, Tommy Conlin.
Devastated European landscapes have been replaced with lush jungles that are eerily similar to the ones found in this
year's wave of pathetic 'Nam titles. But don't be confused, Pacific Assault shares little in common with these games
past its locales. Perhaps the one major flaw is that EALA got a little too ambitious with the graphics engine, and even
on higher-end PCs, you'll experience excruciating load times and in-game slowdown. Still, when it is running smoothly,
Pacific Assault will likely wow you with its believable atmosphere, keen A.I., and novel recovery/death system. Games
based on this type of historical horror are always a bit of a guilty pleasure, and in that sense, you may find yourself
feeling really guilty about all the pleasure you get out of Pacific Assault.
We should also mention that Pacific Assault includes online multiplayer for up to 32 players, which features an
addictive, objective-based mode similar to the one found in Return to Castle Wolfenstein.
