Flatout: Road Rage with a purpose

Ever have the overwhelming urge to smash into the car that just cut you off? Or maybe sideswipe that guy trying to muscle in front of you? How about hurling yourself through the windshield? Well, now you can! And it won't involve dealing with the police, lengthy hospital visits, or death.Flatout Car

Flatout is a racing game that involves full contact racing. Smashing into your opponents is acceptable in this game. In fact it's encouraged. The race track is littered with items than can be hit and destroyed as well. Not only that, the items stay on the track for other people to hit. Marvelous! Perhaps the finest feature of the game, however, is the sadistic glee with which you can hurl your on screen persona through the windshield to his doom. Through the miracle of ragdoll physics, your driver can now eat dirt after a crash, a first for a racing game, and then be driven over by the other competitors. On top of that, there are minigames which involve, for example, smashing your car into something to see how far you can hurl the driver. Sadistic? Yes. Enjoyable? Very. Hilarious? Definitely!

A demo was released late last week and is well worth closer examination. And if you can get your frustrations out before you get into your car and drive to, or from, work, then this demo is a public service. Just remember, hurling yourself through the windshield in the real world will result in multiple lacerations, as well as an expensive car repair bill. So play Flatout, and avoid all these, as well as that pesky death thing too…
