What surprised me the most is how long it took Marvel to finally go forth with this. Don't get me wrong, in no way am i supporting Marvel in this decision. But suing a company just because you can create something that looks like "The Incredible Hulk" surly is absurd. Thats like me going to go sue the next man that looks like me and is a supermodel for calvin klien. What is the world coming to

They really ought to consider what their actions are saying to the City of Heroes players that are Marvel fans.

That's what I think. The similarities to their heroes may be strong but, while this may intrude on their brand, it can only help their industry. Which, as usual, is in need of a shot in the arm. It's short-term thinking vs long-term in my mind.

Marvel can jump off a cliff! They are just mad their dumb "suits" did not think of it. And what happens when a suit is made to look stupid? "Let's sue and see what happens." Every online super hero game has failed to date, except CoH. All the suits looked at a game concept and said, "We will not invest in something like this". Supposedly Marvel has started a project like CoH and it kept getting back shelved. "NO money in it." Duh, if it is not done right. Now some one puts their company on the line and launches the smoothest MMO in history and they want to steal a piece of the pie. Why? Because some dumb ass said, "Don't put money into the online dev, it will never work." Now his boss is saying, "What is going on with our online game?" And he is shaking in his pants. Now to buy time or look for a quick bit of cash. "I have the answer." "Sue."

Bastards just lost my business, again they can buzz off!

BTW, if anyone from Marvel reads this. I spend about $50 a week on comics. This will stop until this nonsense is over and may never get that high again.
I am the person who buys comics and plays CoH. And I am really pissed at Marvel. Myself and the people I play with make fun of anyone that even remotly resmbles something else. The whole idea is to make your own hero, be orginal.

BTW, when you sign on you have to click an agreement, that states you will come up with your own hero. Maybe Marvel should just go after all those individuals that copied there characters.

Ridiculus. The lawsuit says that the CoH engine allows players to create characters that infringe Marvel's trademarks.

What's next? Marvel sueing Crayola because I can use their crayons to draw a picture of "The Hulk"?

Honestly.

While it may appear outwardly that Marvel is being petulant and trite, copyright laws are such that copyright holders have to be very aggressive in protecting their intellectual property. Failure to do so sets a dangerous precedent that makes it that much harder to defend the properties against future threats. I'd bet that it's taken so long for Marvel to file suit because they had to decide whether the risk to their current business was worth the negative press this lawsuit has generated.

Sure you can have metal claws—like Wolverine—on a character in COH, but that character might look nothing like Wolverine. Additionally, Freedy Kruger had metal claws, as did gladiators in ancient Greece and Ninjas in Japan. Does anyone own the right to the metal claws concept?! Perhaps real live wolverines will sue Marvel next?!?!!?

Marvel should acquire 50% of of COH in exchange for giving them rights to all their characters in COH. That would double the revenue of COH I'm sure. In fact, people might pay and extra $50 for the Marvel expansion pack which would allow you to create characters based on Marvel's existing library.

Up next: Marvel sues individual users in COH for creating their version of Wolverine. The music industry went to the consumer level, so why not have Marvel sue a 12-year old from creating their version of Wolverine?! Heck, I'm going to turn my brother in for drawing Wolverine in his 8th-grade notebook!

Why didn't DC sue Marvel for characters that can fly like Superman, or anybody with a cape or in tights? So what if he has claws like Wolverine?!! Half of Marvel's Superheroes are based on something from DC's Superman. I'm not a DC fan mind you, I grew up reading Marvel. This is rediculous, it just shows the pretenciousness of Marvel thinking they are the only franchise allowed to have superheroes. I'm glad they went bankrupt once and I hope it happens again. The Punisher Movie Sucked, Daredevil Movie Sucked, The Hulk was 2.5 hours of Jar Jar Binks, and Tobey McGuire makes me want to vomit. I think I should sue Marvel for those 8 hours of my life back.

Frankly, Marvel never came to the plate to give us a game like this -- it missed the boat and now it has followed the tried and true method of bullying companies faced with brighter, more responsive competition: call in the lawyers. Sounds just like Microsoft. I hope the folks behind City of Heroes fight back -- hard -- and that the legal fees don't bankrupt them.

i am atualy glad that Marvel has failed with their sue case because i - a DC fan - play onm CoH and i think it is the best superheroe game out and if anyone Marvel should sue realy os Cartoon Network because of their 'The Increbile Bulk' which acts just like the Hulk except he has purple skin and is a bit doopy, he resembles more of the Hulk than anyone i have came across in CoH.

This is one of the main reasons i am a DC fan because DC comics dont go around sueing people for creating anything that looks or has the same powers as superman (half of the players in CoH have invunrability and have Super Strength, Flight and have laser beam eyes as an epic power) or any other hero that DC have created
