Snoop Dog single debuts in Need For Speed Underground 2
Snoop Dog, always on the cutting edge of music, games and porn, has set a new precedent for the ever-evil music business. His new single, Riders on the Storm, has debuted in Need For Speed Underground 2. The track, produced with the surviving members of The Doors, can only be heard if you buy the game (for now, at least). The article goes on to make the case for future collaborations between the two mediums. It's a no-lose deal for the music industry, which is a big, old, fat loser. While gaming is a sexy redhead. Our emerging presence in the mainstream just keeps mounting. And, no, I don't say that with naive glee — more like, worried awe. Hopefully the music biz culture won't rub off.

I rather dislike EA's music choices, only a few songs at best (out of a pretty broad selection of 26+ tracks per game) that I liked; Snoop Dogg will not help with the situation.

Uh, not quite cutting edge.
In 1999, David Bowie not only supplied the soundtrack for EIDOS' "Omnikron: The Nomad Soul," but he and the band appear in the game performing at a bar.

Any system based on the idea that music costs money is soooooooo 20th century.
A song can promote shows (where the artist gets *paid* for *working*).
Fans can buy merchandazing (I buy T-Shirts of bands nobodt ever heard of. Also makes me look uber cool).
Got a movie? a game? a bar mitzvah? The artist can do something especially for you, but it will cost you. Up to you and the artist how much, but my guess is that Dogg is worth a bundle since many people go to his shows, buy his T-Shirts, and (the ultimate index) P2P his songs.
