The first version of Ghost Recon 2 was released this week for the Xbox. While the timing wasn't great (a week after
Halo 2!), loyal fans everywhere took a break from saving Earth from the Covenant invasion and scooped up their copies.
And what they got was a definite improvement over the original. Most noticeable, besides the switch to third-person
(first-person is optional), is the huge leap in graphical presentation; "Ghost Recon 2 is Paris Hilton to Ghost Recon
1's Nicole Richie" (IGN). There've been some interface tweaks too, making it less painstaking to control your squad on
the fly; but the missions have been made more linear, often reduced to tiresome trail-and-error runs.
The Xbox Live component has been cleaned up and is fully 3.0 enabled—featuring a number of co-op modes to go with the
usual human vs. human frag fest. And the new Lone Wolf mode is pretty sweet, sending you off to complete the missions
solo-style, armed with the futuristic, camera-mounted, shoot around walls, grenade launching, M29 gun! If you're a fan,
we're sure you've already copped it, but if you haven't messed with Ghost Recon in the past, keep this title in mind
for when you're done with Halo 2.
