Following up on our follow-up of last week's piece on EA business practices, we can only conclude that making games
is hard. It's hard work. EA has been in the news recently, in the kind of way that a company does not want to be in the
news. There are complaints that the megacorporation overworks its employees. Having worked in the game industry for
several years, I can vouch for that. It's hard. It's hard work.
Anyone who thinks they can get into the biz and have the time of their lives will only be half-right. It'll be fun,
sure. But it'll be fun at 2 in the morning, with several bosses telling you that a multi-million dollar project is
depending on you to finish testing this or that level. The actual fun moment will come when your fellow tester makes a
snide comment about the bosses as they leave. Something about their cologne, most likely.
In other words, the game business sucks just as much as every other business sucks. It's hard. It's hard work.
