Elder Scrolls III was the closest thing to an offline massively multiplayer game I've ever played. Yeah, it's an
oxymoron, but humor me. Wandering the massive, detailed world was akin to a stroll through the ideal fantasy land.
That's been done before, sure. But the hundreds, if not thousands, of NPCs came at you from every direction. With
insights, rumor and quests. Some would just be there to keep you company in a large and cruel landscape. I was
transfixed by the game in a way that my Everquest-playing buds are transfixed by their fantasy title of choice. Now
comes word that Elder Scrolls IV will build on its predecessor's design successes, with an even bigger world, more
players and a graphics engine that will make you want to cry.
Not too much is known about the title right now, but the spigots are opening bit by bit. Our guess is ES IV will be
the one to read/gossip about after the holiday season.
