All those hours spent pumping loose change into Defender, only to die three seconds later.
Now THAT was the way to spend your youth. Desperately heaving change
into Gauntlet so you didn't get "Game Over". The buyer's remorse you'd inevitably feel as you jammed the last of your
pocket money into the machine, only for that dang asteroid to hit you, and realising that was it for the week. No
money.
Now you can recreate those days with, so it claims, NO TECHNICAL SKILLS!
MAME, the ubiquitous arcade machine emulator, is the software component. Now you can buy the hardware and recreate
your own Defender cabinet. Or whatever other machine used to beat you into submission within seconds of you depositing
your hard earned money into it. I was Enduro Racer's bitch for a long time, so it's a shame you can't recreate the more
exotic cabinets like Enduro, Pole Position etc… One day no doubt.
Buy enough of these kits, and you can open up your own retro arcade. All you'll need is some gum mashed into the
carpet, and a surly old man handing out change behind bullet proof glass to complete the experience.
