Cell computing has been around in one form or another for awhile. You can see a version of it at work with SETI, the community of computers working hard to discover life beyond this tiny globe. But the most mainstream use to come along is the IBM/Sony partnership on the Playstation 3. In a nutshell (which usually gets us in trouble around here), one of the more intriguing features of cell computing is that it gathers the resources of many computers on a network. The end result is a shared multi-core system that can increase the computing power, and ability, of each individual unit. How this will impact gaming is yet to be seen, but you can guess how excited the developers are getting. IBM and Sony have just announced that they'lll reveal some details about the architecture early next year — the beginning of an effort to familiarize the community with the tech, and the beginning of the hype (of course).
