Blizzard has announced that World of Warcraft
has smashed opening-day records for a PC game, selling roughly 240,000 copies. Sure it ain't Halo 2, but the
figures are impressive considering that WoW is an MMORPG. And as you may have guessed, the game also broke
first-day records for peak concurrency and account creation for an MMORPG, seeing over 200,000 players joining the
online arena and 100,000 of them playing simultaneously by 5:00 pm (PST). Needless to say, all of the original
servers were filled to capacity, and 40 more had to be added by the end of this past weekend.
