Gamespy has upped the fees they charge Mac game developers who use their online matching services. Gamespy had been offering their services for a discount, to entice the companies — but, now that they're hooked, they'll have to pay up. How big are the increases? By one estimate, the new fee could be as much as 50-100% of the entire budget of today's Mac games. That's kind of painful, don't you think? Some are guessing this may lead to a dearth of online Mac games, and they're probably right, in the short term. It will certainly cut into the number of Mac titles that could play nice with PC titles, since this was one of the features of the GS package. It's a shame, but, in the end, it's all business. Look at it this way — there's an opportunity for a Gamespy competitor to make a move.
Mac and PC online matches a thing of the past?
