Blizzard is getting ready to intoduce its PvP (Player vs. Player) rewards system to World of Warcraft in the coming weeks. For those who are new to massively multiplayer games, PvP is an age-old issue that has torn the gaming world asunder for years. You want your players to be able to kill each other if they want (that's where the fun is for many), but you also want the newbies to get through their first 10 minutes without getting pulverized. This is what they have to say about their solution:
"...the player-versus-player gameplay has always been a staple of the design for World of Warcraft; the war between
the Horde and the Alliance simply isn't over. It might not look this way now, because our full player-versus-player
system isn't in the game yet, but the introduction of Battlegrounds, and the full PvP reward system, will change that
perception. We've been testing Battlegrounds and our reward system for weeks internally now, and we're ready to bring
you a full-blown, multi-part preview of what we have in store for you in the months ahead."
We're sure they've done it right, for the most part. Blizzard rarely misses by much. The fact that the PvP is seen as
instrumental to continuing the tale of Warcraft is a sign that they have their heads screwed on right.
