Gavin Carter at Bethesda Softworks gives us some more details on the upcoming Elder Scroll
sequel, Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. The screenshots we've seen so far are anything but oblivion, with gorgeous details
never seen in a game before. But a game is more than its graphics, so FileFront digs a little to see what will set the
game apart from its predecessors. Here's a clip from the interview:
"The combat system has been reworked from the ground up (several times, in fact) to provide a deeper and more engaging experience. We've added in features to make traveling back and forth across the world less tedious. We've created a world-spanning AI system to breathe new life into our NPCs. Dialog, magic, skills, interfaces, landscape, graphics — they all have changes ranging from major to minor that should hopefully surprise gamers everywhere (in a good way)!"
While the new combat system could be a welcome change, any alteration of the travelling system is risky. Part of the series' charm is in its massive landscapes. The limited transportation means only forced the developer to put in a lot of little quests and treasures. Hopefully, the effort to make travel less "tedious" will not harm the open-world feeling fans are used to.
