I've always been a bit of a Linux junkie. Sadly, being a gamer, I'm stuck with the Microsoft OS's if
I want to play most games. (Yes, I know there
are options, but if I'm going to run Windows games, it's easier to run them natively.) I still keep Linux on a couple
of machines here.
Knoppix is a Linux distribution on CD, that actually boots from said CD, so you don't have to worry about installing
it on your system. If you've ever wanted to give Linux a go, and are a gamer, which if you're reading this site, you no
doubt are, then a special games version, complete with ATI and Nvidia support, has been released. Oh yeah, it's
perfectly legal, and like the best things in life, totally free.
Bit Torrent download of the CD image
here. (I
recommend Azureus as a client.) I found this last night. Sadly, I should
have posted it then, as I wake up today to find it's been linked on another big site, meaning, right now, the site is
very slow at responding, hence the BT link.
Games... Linux... Oh my....

I don't even have a Windows OS to play games.
So imagine my frustration.
I like the games Legends very much (see URL).
I believe that if it shows more interest, developers will make the game better and more stable.
It is free and very action packed based on Tribes.
Strangely enough servers are rarely packed.
I wonder if it was commercial it would attract more interest?
After all Doom 3, Quake 3, UT 2004 has.

I've decided it's time to get back into Linux. Been slacking off (outside of my laptops running Debian)... Must change that.
As for UT... Maybe I just choose a crappy time to play, but I rarely see loads of people on. That's even playing the designated "Featured Mod". You're lucky if you can find one decently filled server.

I disagree with one point in your article. Windows is not needed to play games. There is a product called cedega for linux that let's you play windows games. Plus, a lot of games are being ported over to linux.

Let's see you run Elicense protected titles in Linux. Let's see you run Starforce protected titles in Linux.
I've been using Linux for 5 years now, and yes, there are games. The fact is though, you need Windows to play the majority of games, and cheap hacks in Linux will never be a subtitute for the real thing.

As much as I would like to see everything run on Linux, I can't say I care that much if games do... Lot's of people buy single purpose game consoles that are only good for playing games. That's why I have a dual boot system with a Windows drive for my games. That's all it's good for, so I don't have a problem with it. It takes too much time relearning how to install the correct graphics drivers each time I wipe out my / partition for whatever reason. And since I only play games once or twice a week for a few hours at a time, Windows is rarely running, thus not slowly killing itself and slowing my game play.

As a friend of mine used to describe his dual boot box, "Windows has been reduced to being a glorified gameboy".
There is some quirk with my main system running XP. I CANNOT dual boot the thing. I've tried everything, every piece of advice I've found, to no avail, so I only dual boot my older Win98 system.
On saying that, my attempt to install Mandrake 10.1 ended. I boot from the DVD... Everything is fine... Until the install tells me that the drive I booted from doesn't exist... Hmm... Seems to be a known problem, but one without an apparent solution.
