Young kids, old games… Hilarity ensues
What do you get when you combine old games with the kids of
today? Comedy gold, that's what.
Sitting current kids down in front of Atari's "Adventure" from 1978 practically qualifies as child abuse I think.
Reading how stunned the kids are to find out that in Galaga, when you lost all your lives… You had to start again.
Priceless. Games have become easier, that's a fact. Just go and emulate the 8-bit system of your choice and realise
that we're a bunch of wusses now…

I read the first Child's Play back when it was printed and both laughed and wanted to smack the kids upside their head; and its no different this time around! A lot of what these kids say is asinine and...well, extremely child-like. (Sorry to express the obvious)

These kids need to be shot, honestly. One kid, Bobby i think, said "i play this on my cellphone.." I look up, and wonder "hm, he must be 15+".. But no, he WAS 11... AND HAS A CELLPHONE. The parents of these children, need to be shot as well.

You guys are being too harsh. Most of the dumb stuff that the kids are saying is just them joking around. And who cares if the 11 year-old has a cell phone? When cell phones first came out and were only seen being used by businessmen and so forth, it would have seemed similarly absurd for a 20 year-old college kid to be chatting up his/her friends with it--but today it's commonplace. So Bobby has a cell phone, big deal. Now his parents can reach him when they need to and vice versa. Hooray for gadgetry.
At least these kids *understand* the fact that their own kids will think their video games were stupid (re: Wind Waker). Furthermore, I agree with a lot of the comments they make. For a frame of reference, I'm 22 years old and my first game system was a TI-99/4A. I remember the old (EXPLETIVE DELETED) and contrary to the nostalgic lament of many an old-school gamer, I don't believe that games have gone downhill from back in the day. I value minimalism in gaming, but I value depth more: I'd take Soul Calibur over Galaga any day of the week. The main thing the games of yesteryear had going for them was, as the kids in this article pointed out, addiction. That addictive quality has always been alive and well in the industry and is thriving today in, among others, the MMO genre. Addiction does not equal value.

k, an 11 year old with a cellphone? The kids not even old enough to realize that sex is the way that humans procreate. For crying out loud, he's not even a man yet.
It's not a new era, its called disrespect. These games were the foundation for the games that they play today. If i was this witty around my elders when i was younger, i would have gotten a swift kick in the jaw. And i'm only 20.
For the most part, you are right, times are changing. But not for the better, and these kids are proof that its getting worse.

Crikey. You're telling me you didn't know what sex was for when you were 11? That was when my *school* was telling me how it all worked. There is nothing inherently 'adult' about a cell phone; it's just a matter of cultural norms. And what's wrong with being 'witty' around 'elders'? It's not like they were being rude to the EGM guy.

As I said, what they said is extremely child-like. The only two who spoke with any respect at all were the two girls; all the boys spoke like they were trying too hard to be funny and in the process wound up insulting people; Which is how boys speak so no surprise there. As for the cellphone, its not surprising to see anyone with cellphones nowadays several kids around my block carry them, its just a phone people, not a sex toy, whats so surprising about it?
