Language Learning & Technology recently posted an article that suggests modifying the Sims for use as a foreign
language (learning) tool. We all know—or perhaps you've managed to escape—the horror that is educational
software, and the authors of this particular commentary are well aware of the nature of these games:
"simplistic space invader games, re-programmed to solicit foreign language vocabulary before being able to be able to
shoot at a screen of sketchily drawn aliens."
In many ways, the Sims would provide the same sort of settings as an introductory language textbook. But this
summary is not doing justice to the detailed work laid out in the article itself. Print this out and read it over lunch, so you're not banging
on the principal's door after your kid comes home from school and tells you all he did was play video games.
Scrap the text books & fire up the Sims
