The Game Developers Conference is still the most fun to be had in a convention hall. Yes, it's become too huge. Yes, San Jose needs a facelift. Yes, John Carmack needs to stop running away when I run at him, screeching. But it's still a treasure trove of talent, inspiration and energy (at least for the first couple of days). Now, it has a new leader. Jamil Moledina has a chore and a half to take on. The theme of the event will be "Future Vision", which should be interesting, since one of the guests is slated to be Peter Molyneux. And we all know what he said about the whole "vision thing." We bet he takes his muzzle off when he takes to the stage. Another topic that will be discussed is the developer's quality of life — a hot topic these days. At long last.

If he's still in touch with his roots, sure. If, however, he's all into programming in a dark hotel room, buying expensive cars and dreaming of private space travel, then he may be too busy.

Downtown San Francisco this year... means there's a lot more to do including a trip to HoPR (House of Prime Rib)!
