The Grand Theft Auto series' freestyle gameplay has spawned a booming genre. The open-ended nature of GTA III took
many by surprise, and it's just been getting better and better. Games like Mafia, Mercenaries and Spider-Man 2 have
done a good job of picking up on the trend. Now, there's word that The Godfather license is going to go the way of
Rockstar. You'll be playing as a member of the feared Corleone family, moving through jobs as you climb the ladder.
It's reported that EA has wanted to get into the genre for awhile, and they feel The Godfather story is the best
vehicle. It certainly seems like a good idea to us. Sure, Mafia has been there before. But weren't we all just dreaming
of being a Corleone as we played?
On a side note, has anyone given this GTA genre a name? It's only going to get bigger. Action Adventure somehow seems
inadequate, since you don't actually need to follow the adventure. Hell, you can just wander around forever without
finishing the game. It's more of a Troublemaker game. Or a Freestyle Action game. Or a World Is My Oyster game. An
Oyster game? Stop me, before I hurt myself.
The Godfather's going to San Andreas for some pointers
