Uber-tipster, striegs, has sent this one in. Thanks striegs!
Apparently, patent application 20040266529 filed for by Sony in June of 2003 covers methods of using wireless
connections to expand the functionality of a wireless game machine. Huh, I wonder if by "wireless game machine" they're
talking about the PSP? If so, that not only means that Sony had the PSP in the works a lot longer than we thought (the
patent was applied for a full 11 months before E3 2004), it also means that Sony is serious about the whole wireless
multiplayer gaming thing (cue the N-Gage montage).
The article also mentions portable console to home console data transfer potential. Although, since the PS2 has no
wireless cards, it either means that: A) that's another add-on you're going to have to buy (connected via USB 1.1, no
less), or B) they're talkin' 'bout the PS3, meaning you're gonna have to wait until 2006.
Unless Sony decides to drop a bombshell, and release the PS3 next month, that is.
