HomeLANFed has posted an interview with Epic programmer Steve Polge and vice president Mark Rein. They go over the recently-completed Make Something Unreal contest, where Red Orchestra walked away with a Best Mod prize, 50 grand, and an Unreal Engine license. Needless to say, they're as delighted with the results as the fans are. "The number of high quality mods entered grew in each successive phase of the contest. It was pretty overwhelming by the end," Polge says in the interview. If true, then it's important that we see another contest soon. The fact that the submissions kept getting better as time went on is a sure sign that the mod community is growing. My theory is that the incentive Nvidia and Epic offered with the contest is one of the reasons it has been showing such progress. There's no better way to get people to work their asses off than to offer up some dough.
