A number of media watch groups out there are concerned about the ESRB, claiming that 60-90% (that's a big range) of games have themes that are inappropriate for children. While there are certainly some titles out there that you wouldn't want a child playing, 83% of games are either rated "T" (teen) or "E" (everyone)—and apparently, 83% of parents agree with the ratings system; 5% think it's too strict.
Not to mention, 9 out of 10 purchases are made by adults, so even if the games eventually land in the hands of children, adults have to know (we hope) what they're buying. And more importantly, this information tells us that Mature games don't necessarily equal sales—representing only 18% percent of games sold last year. What gives? Don't we love excessive violence and T&A?
