Didn't Nokia launch a similiar service with their ill-fated N-Gage to allow you to do useless stuff like download hints and save games?

If Sony charges for the service, either a subscription fee or for individual downloads, the thing is dead. If they don't it will be of mild interest.

The Sega Dreamcast had a similiar service using the Modem and web browser. Perhaps a total of 10 people used it.

What makes Sony think their service is any different than these dead/dying ones?

Of course, there's nothing stopping Nintendo from doing the same. Instead of music and movies, though, Nintendo could offer old, emulated NES, SNES, and Game Boy games for little cost. I'd pay for it.
