GameDaily has an interesting opinion piece on the growing pro-gaming world. Many of us scoffed at the idea a few years ago, but the trend keeps on rolling along. Korea is at the forefront, with celebrity gamers making upwards of 200 grand; but the rest of the world will probably catch up, eventually. One of the premises of the opinion piece is that gaming companies should become involved in the pro world by using their own money to promote the tournaments. While this sounds likely, it also sounds insufficient to get the ball rolling. To get real attention, you need cross-media sponsors. NASCAR promoting a tournament with their game would get covered by every media outlet in the US. Sony promoting a Planetside tournament wouldn't.
