I just played through the Star Wars: Republic Commando
demo, and found it impressive overall. It
looks fantastic at 1280x960 with all the trimmings turned on. The action is intense, the controls are easy to get used
to and the weapons are the best I've played with in awhile. The innovative way they deal with "dying" is a nice touch
that fits well with the frantic pace of the game. Also, it has to be said, the ending is one of those excellent peeks
that makes you want to play the full game. If you played the demo and don't know what I'm talking about, go back and
finish it again. But this time stay in the window and look down at the hangar. Intriguing… I like that character a
lot.
The downside of the demo is that it's pretty linear. There's nothing wrong with that, as long as the full version of
the game is involving enough to keep us entertained. I have high hopes that it will be. Another minus is the voices
seem to drown each other out a lot. I like the hectic banter of a takedown as much as the next guy, but being Delta
Leader, I need a way to siphon the battlefield data from the wise-ass jokes.
From the looks of it, though, this one's getting my dough.
Here's a preview of the game, to tide you over until March 1…
