Ubisoft is doubling their Montreal workforce.
As a "reward" for this, they're getting 57 million in Canadian dollars in provincial grants and subsidies. Oh yeah,
they're getting unspecified tax credits as well. Then the Federal goverment is throwing in another five million
dollars. You know, just in case they need to buy pencils or something.
This, it seems, is the grand plan to protect the company from Electronic Arts. Spending a bunch of free government
money. Great strategy…
Now, call me cynical, but the only thing I can think of right now is this: Has the US government ever done anything
like this? I think there'd be uproar. I'd be curious to see what Quebec based tax payers have to say on knowing a large
chunk of what they've contributed is being given away to a games company, seemingly to save it from another games
company.
