Need something long to read to distract you
from the fact it's another boring Sunday? Well check out 1UP's huge Essential 50 list. Their list of the most important
video games.
Unlike a lot of lists of this type that seem to think video games didn't start until the early 80's, or in some cases,
even the 90's, this one is serious. It's first entry is Spacewar for crying out loud! Never heard of it? That's
probably because it was on the PDP-1 in 1962.
It's a heck of a long read, and if you need it, will give you a good schooling in just how we got to where we are now.
About the only surprise, to me, is that Metal Gear Solid 2 is missing from the list. (The original is there.) I
remember reading stories when the title debuted at E3 that some journalists were in tears because the visuals were so
amazing.
