Rumor: Blizzard Begins Work on Diablo III

Blizzard is looking for a "lead game designer" who (according to the official job posting) can
"help
lead the team that designed Diablo and Diablo II." The posting also notes that experience
working on RPG titles would be a plus. This has lead some individuals to speculate that Blizzard is beginning to ramp
up for the development of Diablo III.
What we really want to know is this: will D3 be 3D? Isometric is so 90's!

I hear they enjoy third-born children. My guess is that they'll wait to finish Ghost before they delve back into the SC universe. Hope I'm wrong, though.

d3 aint gonna happen! not for a few years anyway, besides 3d diablo wud be a bit lame..the playability would take take a bad ass nose dive. just make it higher res graphix with a litle more detail and i'll be a happy camper

I agree they shouldn't make it 3D, it's so lame. I love the way Diablo 2 is now, and as stated before, they should just improve the graphics slightly, and more importanly introduce new skills, characters, and items!
I hope they do make a Diablo 3, it'd be so awesome. Let's just keep our hopes up high - I'm sure we can rely on Blizzard. :)

This is flipping ridiculous. They know how strong the desire is for SC2. I don't think they can deliver which is why they haven't delivered. It is, for lack of a better term, game developer's Performance Anxiety. Honestly, can anyone think of a similar situation in terms of a game having a comparatively high popularity latched to a comparatively high failure to deliver a sequel for such a long period of time as ... what is it now 6 or 7 years?
Off the top of my head, I can't think of anything that even comes close ...
lol maybe Warcraft III? Even that wasn't as bad. Anyway,

Im Soo Adicted to d2 right now and if they make a d3 I think id just lose it. But you guys are right they shoudn't make it sooo repetitive. Also they need to make more things like diablo's clone or random bosses that are rare to find.

Guys, 3D doesn't equate to first person if that is waht you are thinking, and yes, you can bet any amount of money that you want that D3 will be in 3d, as for those of us Non hardcore diablo players 2d games are called "budget titles" and would not sell worth crap at stores. I would expect and desire a 3d isometric viewpoint, aka GTA 3 or Max Payne/Enter the matrix type. This would preserve the old feel, still allow point/click if you wanted it (DIEDIEDIE!!!) and yet still make way for far far better graphics in this p4 (p5 by then) age...p.s. gamespy has Diablo III set to release late 06...granted that is likely a very very tentative/rumor date, but it is there.

Ah... D3! I could enjoy the whole addiction all over again. My two cents... I don't really care if it's 3D. I want new big bosses to axe. BattleNet's description of Duriel mentions Azmodan and Belial.. how about putting them together in a new Act III? D2-LOD already has grassland, desert, jungle, volcanic, "space", city, and snowy mountain environments.... so next we should go underwater (ah, which means we need a quest to get a potion or somesuch to breath).
If they are just now talking about D3 and haven't begun programming, I would guess that 2006 is a very optimistic date.

There are rumors that D3 development is on the way. This is the absoloute best news I've heard this year!
Starcraft was really cool but I do not think it has as much fans as Diablo does (I am not saying it doesn't have..It has lots but not as many as Diablo)

when wil there be a preveiw to Diablo III or a demo i want to see if its worth buying plus need to make another starcraft that ghost one looks gay also make another warcraft that game is kick ass got all of them so yea let me in on whats going to happen and when the preveiws are goin to come out peace

some of you people sicken me with your requests... "no 3d! 3d is teh gay!" have you even SEEN a 3d rpg title? think of things such as Lineage2, where you can change the camera angle..thats what they mean by 3d, not that it will be first person.
I have heard on other sites, people wanting it to be like pokemon.. the fuck? pokemon has nothing to do with diablo..and breathing underwater..would have to be a limited time potion, or else it would be just...crap.
I also suggest that you people DROP the l33t speak when making comments..l33t speak is for little morons that cannot type a real sentance, and for hackers who just won a duel

it seems blizzard dont to develop Diablo ;) may be they scared we kill all demon things so they havent any more idea for next one :D!
i wait and check every day blizzard website but it seems they buried Diablo forever!

Look guy all im saying is that IF Diablo III is realeased, Its gonna be in about 10-12 years time. We all know it, BLIZZARD SUX AT REALEASE DATES, There was a site called Diabloiii.net which has mestiriously gone BANG and its sister site Diabloiii.com has also been shut down onlt to be replaced with:

Whos gonna pay that much for a domain other than someone like Blizzard Entertainment who needs the site for game info and downloads.

I love diablo i beat the shit otta the first and second one and the expansion aswell but now after playing for about 4 years of Diablo its finally starting to get boring, killed tainted ones and watching baals guts spillout all over the floor with all his freaky vine things around you trying there best to beat the shit outta you. LOL still is fun in a way, and i hope that in the next version (Diablo III) they can find a way to STOP diablo charecture editors i get so pissed off at people who use them. so cheap.

I think they should make a 3D diablo III but keep the same view point like how war3 is, its 3d.. you can look around in 3d but you can still see everything from a 3rd person birds eye view :P

Well, after reviewing all your comments, I have been motivated to speak. Playing Diablo / Hellfire , Diablo(Playstation), DiabloII and Fianlly D2 LoD. Been there done that. And since I'd say September, I have succumbed to the boredom. I have only been on speratically at best since. Sorry, but I find it pathetic now ( Which is a crime becuase I love the game soo much)Key questing has become nerve racking, Mfing has been frustrating at best, Dueling needs a kick in the arse (big time!)And lest we forget the Uber Twins. (sigh)
D3 is coming. It has to. It will. Blizzard cannot afford to wait 10-12yrs, it will shrivel up and die. It will be 3D no question about it or simular to Dungeon Seige2 ( If thats isometric) The Characters will be refurbished, maybe even stream-lined for more Character types (Monk,Rogue,Pikeman, Alchemist or even the often rumoured a Goatman rebelled)
What I have heard is that they are completing the soundtrack somewhere in Poland. And everyone has heard about the rumour @ Blizcon about them releasing a trailer for D3.
A battle for Heaven, sounds pretty interesting.
But the odds of them releasing that info on WoW Expansion day would be unwise.
Mark my words D3 will be a virtual world very much like WoW. It'll be huge, It'll be beautiful. It will recapture people like me that love the concept of the game but is ready for something new.
End of 2006. Be prepared for D3

hes right. they have just realeased WoW, and are realeasing starcraft ghost, so they need something too fall back on. i know any new game they make will be great, its when they release it thats the problem. honestly i cannot name a blizzard sequel that sucked. and their not going too say anything about the game untill their getting close too releasing it, (or when they think they are.)
