I'm not ashamed to say that Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2 is my favorite real-time
strategy game of all eternity. But after EA assimilated (and split up) its developer, Westwood Studios, I had
given up all hope of ever seeing my beloved RTS ever again (although, admittedly, Generals was pretty good).
But now it seems that there's hope for all you other Red Alert fanboys out there. A Dutch website has
apparently posted details on an upcoming sequel in the beloved Red Alert series, and specifically mentions the
Nintendo DS (although you can bet EA will bring it to the PC as well).
In all my hours of speculation of what the DS could bring to the table, I never once took into consideration its RTS capability. After all, most RTS console ports are abysmal failures, mere shadows of their former mouse-enabled selves. But with the DS's touchscreen capabilities, controlling dozens of units could be a snap. And with a second screen to display the ever-important map and power meter, RA3 could be the best console RTS ever made (not that that's saying much).
