Following yesterdays post on originality in games comes this article, citing the most creative games
in
2004. The game industry in threw up a few
surprises last year. Katamari Damacy, on paper, sounds ridiculous. In short, you roll a ball around, picking up items
from the enivronment. The more objects, the bigger the ball. The bigger the ball, the bigger the item you can roll into
it. The object is to reach a certain size. I won't spoil why, as that's part of the charm of the game, as the storyline
is quite obviously conceived by a lunatic. And god bless that lunatic. The game is a masterpiece.
Katamari was one of the most creative games out there, as the article states. However, originality and creativity are
vastly different beasts, leading various mainstream titles to get credit for creativity, and rightly so.
It's a good read. Also, if you've not tried Katamari yet, you really should.
