Dante joins the Soul Calibur 3 lineup

According to a recent interview with Namco producer,
Hiroshi Yamaguchi, Devil May Cry's leading man, Dante, could wind up in Soul Calibur 3 for the PS2. Reportedly,
Capcom borrowed the Soul Calibur 2 engine for a boss fight in the upcoming Devil May Cry 3. In return, Namco
requested the rights to use Dante in the next Soul Calibur sequel to "appease" fans.
We could be wrong, but we're assuming PS2 owners will find that Dante is an infinitely more rewarding bonus
character than—no disrespect—Heihachi.

Anything was better than the non-GameCube exclusives last round. Spawn was trash.

Yeah, it does go without saying, though I for some reason don't see Master Chief fitting into the Soul Calibur universe very well. Who knows though.
I would be willing to bet that playing Ganon would be more kick ass then link, especially if they make him all dark magic evil and such.
Anyway, is there any word that there will even be exclusives for other consoles? It seems like a win win deal (except I agree, Sony could have done better than Heihachi). Who knows...

See, but the Big H was a strong character, who had crappy range, but hurt like crazy. While we're on crossover characters, though, I'd love to see Samurai Showdown vs. Soul Calibur. And you know you would, too.

Personally, I hope they don't wind up taking 2 much time to strenghten the special guest characters, but keep and bring back some favorites missed in SC2. I would love to see Dante, but ( even though most likely wont happen) would LOVE it more to see Sephiroth or Cloud make an apperance. More characters, better story mode, online play, BETTER bonus charatcers (such as possibly 2 guest stars per system) are definately Necessary to improve and bring back the glory of Soul Calibur that the 1st one did!

ps2 sc3 should get dante no doubt. xbox shouldnt get maser chief cause his story wont fit & he dont have really melee weapons besides the sword. Ryu from ninja gaiden would rock. for gamecube, link can stay but new blood is better. gannon, roy, or marth are my picks 4 new guest

Dante is simply the best of choices to represent PS2 in its coolest form in SC3! Pure class and kickass attitude like his can't be beaten (I guess :p)
For the xbox, perhaps Kain, Raziel or Ruy... They all weild extremly cool weapons and looks ^_^
As for the nintendo star; Why not Kalas from the new RPG Baiten Kaitos? He looked like the best character to me :D

Dante is the perfect choice as the guest character for the PS2 version of SCIII.
He's got the right attitude, look, and the right moves, so he'd blend in perfectly. If you've played any of the DMC series (I'm aptly waiting for III, it looks fantastic so far), you'd notice this too. I wouldn't have a good opinion for the GC or XBOX, as I think PS2 outranks them all and that's the only platform I play.

Umm..guys..Dante has GUNS. Master Chief has ALOT of GUNS!!! There are NO GUNS ALLOWED in Soul Calibur. Sorry. Take their guns away and they can stay. Otherwise, my picks are 1)Ryu Hayabusa for X-Box 2)Princess Zelda for GameCube
3)Sweet Tooth for PS2(I think it would be funny watching him fight Inferno- I think they are related somehow.

Dante has guns, but he also has his father's sword, which is way more fun to fight with in the DMC series. Dante, I agree, is the perfect console specific character to put in. He's just so cool. Anyway, what I would like to see is absolutely zero copy-characters. In SC1 and 2 almost all the unlockable characters were merely re-modelled forms of other characters with different looking weapons. Exact same moves and all. Seriously, it's not that hard to be creative...

How in the hell will Master Chief fit into anything. It would only serve as a reminder that Halo is the only real strength that X-BOX has over other systems.
I say stick Dante on the PS2. Keep Link on the Gamecube Version and put some other character from another NAMCO game on the X-BOX that might actually fit.
You have any idea how much bull crap they would have to go through to clear the Master Cheif or Ryu?

I gotta be honest with you all. I am so completely sick of talk of Halo altogether. Master Chief is a terrible idea for an SC game. Look at him and compare him to the other SC characters, and then tell me he's a good idea. X-box would need a character that actually fits.
As for the Dante idea, that would probably be the best way to go, but seeing Cloud or Sephiroth hacking and slashing in a game like SC, would be quite awesome.

They need characters that fit the storyline. That means no futuristic characters like Master Cheif.
Second, this is a weapon-based fighting game. That means they need people who use lots of weapons. Ganondorf never even used his sword, so I think he's out. Guns don't count, they wouldn't put those into Soul Calibur, so Master Cheif is out AGAIN. Cloud would work, because he has the Buster Sword, Apocolypse, Ragnarok, Ultima Weapon, etc.

I think it is good that you are adding in dante to soul calibur 3 .
It is good to have him becuse he gets a lot of demon items from the first and 3rd game. ( Don't add the secound devil may cry items, that 1 sucked ) it would be good to put in the weapons ( from the first) called force edge, alsater, ifrit, sparta. ( from the 3rd ) cerebres and probably more that i dint get up to yet.

i was just wonderin, if you know that dante is definitely one of the 3, then how come on namco.com it says that the 3 characteres are, Setsuka, Tira and Zasalamel?? I didn't see Dante mentioned newhere in there. Also, like DarthLuigi said, it's weapon based, if you think link was cheap with arrows... Dante??? 2 guns??? lol, keep your comments about these posts being retarted and it not coming out on GC and Xbox to yourself. Wasn't Budokai 2&3 'sopposed' to be PS2 only? well guess what... Budokai 2 IS coming out on GC with new stages and different fighting modes, which probably means that the PS2 version is either a kinda research game, reviews will flow in and they'll fix it up on GC. After all, GC sold a lot more than PS2 did. So there, take that, get ur facts right, don't assume your right cause your not, especially about that Dante thing. The verdict is, keep ur mouth shut and your lost.

Here is what I know about Dante.
In devil may cry, Capcom them selves borrowed one of namcos engines for a certain boss fight for the game, I have no idea why maybe so it could run differently in a different situation.
In return, since namco was searching for ideas for another character model and idea, they asked Capcom if they could use/borrow the character " dante " from their hit action game. From what I know capcom gave them a sort of yes. That is why Dante will be in the game but maybe not one of the three characters that they speak of. It might be a bonus character
This could also be why its only for ps2 and since the fact that Tekken 5 was only a ps2 title and since it did so well in graphics (note sure gameplay) and the fact of Dante being in the game. That might make it a ps2 only game.
and KiliK I know what you were trying to do was to show others not to strut their stuff if they had nothing to back up, but really your remark is still immature, let people type its less of a hassle if you just let them flow and purely ignore them.

I think for each console it should have 2 exclusive characters for soul calibur 3.For PS2 it can have dante and sparda from devil may cry or inuyasha and sesshomaru from inuyasha or even cloud and sephiroth from final fantasy 7.For gamecube it can have samus and fox from metroid and starfox and for xbox it can have ryu hayabusa and hayate from dead or alive.Think about it wouldn't you love to see cloud vs nightmare or hayabusa vs mitsurugi or even fox vs kilik with their rods

What about Kratos the protagonist of God Of War, I think Kratos can be the best choice as the guest character for the PS2, because God of war is only available in PS2.

Dude, what's with all this? I mean, COME ON! If you want to make us believe that, you need to show some edvidence kiddo.
Personally, I believe that Namco will change their mind on SC3 and put it on all three like they did last time.
If they did, here would be my choice of characters:
PS2: Dante (devil may cry), Cloud (FF7) or Ryu (breath of fire)
Xbox: The hero from Fable and another character (I only have two Xbox games. _; )
Gamecube: Link (legend of zelda) and Kratos (tales of symphonia ^_^ )
The reason I choose these? Simple, because that way, if they suddenly change their mind and add a weapon master mode in (I haven't seen any proof of it being in there as of yet) then they have characters that can have a LOT of weapons.
I also think it'd be cool if they did Dante and/or Ryu since if they did a soul charge, they could change to their demon/dragon form respectively. ^_^ That's all for my view, but please, if you ain't got the proof, keep it buttoned, some of us are trying to find the truth to our favorite games.

I just read that Soul Calibur will be Playstation 2 exclusive... WTF? How can they do that to me? How am I gonna fill my empty fanboy life without a Gamecube Soul Calibur (including Ganondorf wielding some magic swordthing, Link, one kickass Kirby, a menacing Bowser, Kid Icarus and... ummm... the square from Tetris). fightersdestiny, I highly doubt any of the cartoonish Nintendo characters you mentioned would be put into Soul Calibur 3. Highly meaning along the same lines of supremely, incredibly, nihilistically. NEVER would Namco turn their realistic fighting game into a random cartoon melee like Super Smash Brothers. This series is original. Most of the characters are original. One or two guests appear, but that is all. The guests are not the main point of the game. There will be NO Yoshi swallowing Astaroth. There will be no Kirby using Final Cutter to defeat Taki. There will be no Bowser burning the daylights out of Necrid. [On that point, I doubt Necrid will be in Soul Calibur III anyway. Alas, I liked him.]
On the line of Dante's appearance in Soul Calibur III, I think a different guest character would be fun. I have not played Devil May Cry, but I have heard of its exciting gameplay and good graphics. Heihachi was a good character in Soul Calibur II; most definitely one of the most annoying. One could get to close and find themself uppercutted and flying up in the air, patiently waiting for an aerial grab-and-toss. >_>

Master cheif would be no way being chosen to be in the next Soul Caliber. Where would the story fit in? (Maybe "Cheif got teleported into the past after gunning an alien for 8 hours straight.") And SC is heavily focused on melee weapons. Only the energy sword which is nothing. Futuristic weapons never work. Halo was never an awesome game. Halo 1 is okay and Halo 2 is just shooting every little thing in one area then go to another area and repeat. Certinately would'nt work. Halo is like the only game that everybody knows and likes (forsome reason.).Anyways, Dante will make an awesome character for PS3.Here is my opinion on the characters:
GC: Ganondorf all the way baby!!!
XBOX: Ryu Hayabosa would do it. Ninja Gaiden rocks!
PS2: Like I said Dante or Sora from Kindom Hearts! Maybe not too small...
Cloud or Sepiroth or any other people from Final Fantasy Series Are eligble! Maybe Seifer!

Dante would use devl triger.If you guys don't know what devil trigger is iI will tell you guys. I will make up a 2 buttons to change him.L2 L1. Those are the buttons.Can he have 3 costumes. the first one will be the first devil may cry,the second one is the second devil may cry, and then the last one would be the devil may cry 3. Personally, SC 3 needs to do what Tekken 5 did, bring back some of the old characteristics from Soul Blade (since soul calibur is technically soul blade 4) with the weapons meter but if they lose their weapons, they're not screwed. they have some moves (and i dont mean throws) like tekken. Heihachi (if he comes back in SC 3) should have a sword. Yeah, he's the King Of the Iron Fist, but in tekken 3 or 4, he had 2 swords as part of his costume, so why not use that then? Also, how about a mode where if you press the select button, you go from weapon to fists (sorta like MK Deception) and put Kunimitsu in the game since she/he/whatever it is........had a similar fighting style from Yoshimitsu.

No, dude. No fists in SC. Maybe gauntlets that make with the lighting, but no fists. If they're goin to use MK:D as an influence, they should imply some sort of finishing moves. They don't have to be gory, just cool. Or, they could put more emphasis on stances, since they've been tweaking some characters' stances in the first two games for different moves.

As a PS2 owner I'm not devastated by SC3 being PS2 only, but I agree with a lto of the comments that it doesn't make sense not to release it on the other consoles. Someone mentioned Dante not being a char after all, with create-a-character mode instead... has that been verified? I've seen the trailer with CAC, and no Dante... but it would be amazing if he was in there. But as others have said, Cloud or Sephiroth would be the ultimate extra characters, they'd get not a small number of extra sales from die hard FF fans, too... but I don't see it happening.

Ok I have alot of things to say. Firstly SC3 is going to be a ps2 exclusive (for some daft reason). Dante would be the perfect choice for a special character, he wouldnt even need any guns!!!. As for weapons, he has plenty: Alastor, Sparda, Rebelion, Vendetta, Merciless (He would look amazing with Soul edge). As for him not actually being mentioned, are you surprised? Why would they tell us if he was in it. The chances are He will be a special character and namco never reveals its special charaters (except for Tekken 5, which is amazin). I think Hehachi was a good choice for sc2, he is the star of namcos flag game seris afterall.

Yo whoever said Kratos from God Of War got somethin' goin' on right there. I would also love to see an apperance from the Prince in Prince of Persia. But I'm not sure that they would use the same person that guest starred from sc2 in sc3. I think that they're gonna refresh the pplz minds of a great Soul Calibur.
It is a possibility that they would put Heihachi in sc3 so I'm going to stay open minded. I, personally, think that they should never put Link in another fighting game like that. Spawn looked cool (hafta admit that) but his movements were a little slow for me.
I would also like to see Sephiroth or Cloud in the game. That would be awesome. Or maybe even throw in some Street Fighter characters like Vega or Akuma. That would be pretty awesome. Well just keep your fingers crossed for the characters you would like to see.
And remember its only a PS2 game.

I cnat believe sc3 is comming out i have all of the previous games:soul blade sc1 and sc2, personnally i am an xbox fan and thats all i have so i'd really like to see and xbox version and gc version as well as the ps2 version of course i would be extremely pissed off if it doesnt come to all 3 systems, although i doubt their making it a ps2 exclusive because they cant think of any guest chars for the other 2 systems, if thats the case then screw andy guest chars just please make it for all 3 systems it would be totally amazing i meen with all the new things like char creation and stuff. so if the people at namco arent retarded... excuse me-mentally disabled then they should make it for all 3 systems. in conlcusion i would love to see it available for all 3 systems but if it is a ps2 exclusive...hell id buy a ps2 just to play sc3

Whether this was cleared earlier or not, I feel like saying it. Sorry to all the XBox fans(and I know Soul Calibur III is PS2 exclusive), Master Chief would be horrible in something like Soul Calibur III, the only melee weapons in Halo 2 are the weapon beatdowns and the energy sword, otherwise, it's all guns for MC. But also to appeal (possibly) to the Game Cube and XBox fans, my thoughts on who would fit into Soul Calibur III, disregarding any character rights.
GCN: Link was decent, so he gets another chance.
PS2: Cloud, hands down.
XBX: . . . Hm.. Can't think of anyone. That's probably because most of the XBox's characters don't even belong in the same time period as Soul Calibur

I think idea of having Samurai shodown character is pretty cool.Especially that gigantic samuraiman Zankuro or Amakuza(hey this guy has unique weapon -magic crystal ball & unique moves -flying 'n passing enemy with his shadow,right?). anyway, i dont mind with having dante in SC3 idea,but since im a fan of Samurai shodown,it would b nice 2 have them join in SC3 too... :p
