Warioware DS review round-up for lazy people
If you've been looking forward to Warioware
DS, then stand in line. The original for the GBA was a hit with the fans and the reviewers (and the spouses of fans and
reviewers). Its frantic pace was addictive and set the bar pretty high for any sequels.
This review round-up (a sequel to our last round-up) seems to show that there are good and bad things about the title. It still sounds like a worthy buy. Especially since there's nothing else new available for the DS, at least here in North America.

I was just looking at online prices for WarioWare DS and other upcoming titles. I'm a little perturbed. I want Nintendo to survive. I really do. However, games for the DS are listing anywhere from 29.99 (Mario 64 DS) to 49.99 (Sonic DS). Fifty bucks for a portable game, in my opinion, is outrageous. WarioWare is listing for 34.99. That's the top end for the price of a portable for me. On a similar note - when I got my DS in December, I would have blown another 150.00 on games. I really would have, if they had been out. Now? Not so much. Kotor II has won my favors. I really think timing is everything for situations like this, and Nintendo is not hitting that on the head.

Joystiq: A suggestion for even *lazier* people (ie: me). When you do review roundups, it would be cool to include what the "users" are also giving the game. I know a lot of games that don't do well by "the critics" but people love and vice versa. Just my two.
Danny: Good point. I don't think portable games should be over $35. The average should be $30. $50 for a portable game!?!? LAUGHable man!

EB had put all DS games at $49.99 before they had any hard information. They also set a lot of release dates to 3/1/05. I don't expect DS games to break $40. That is what Tactics Ogre for the GBA cost incidentally.

Yeah, that's a good prediction. Unfortunately I don't have a DS yet. I have never been much of a handheld gamer, but I want a DS pretty bad. I am waiting for more games to be released and for maybe the first price drop.
But anyway, yeah, Nintendo could have an edge with the price of the DS AND if they make DS games cheaper than PSP then it will be a nice edge for them.
Who knows...

I just picked up WarioWare.
I'm amazed! I'm Amazed that PDAs have been around for 10 years and nobody has come up with great ways to play games with the stylus. Along comes WarioWare and dumps a TON of innovative and fun uses for the stylus.
Game developers: Examine WarioWare, find 3-5 cool uses of the stylus and build a full-fledged game around them. This is great inspiration for anyone with designs to build a game on the DS or PDAs.

Im frightened by the cost of mobile games, for the DS and PSP I think their costs will or could approach 50$. I dont see how they could design and develop a full fledge 3d game for less. The allure of mobile devices was a shorter production time and budget and fast time to market, but with rising power of mobile devices, this allure is going out the door. Since thats going out the door, I think the lower prices of mobile games is also. I wouldn't be suprised if you see games for the DS approaching 40 or 45$ for a AAA title. And the PSP could approach 50$, though in reality I suspect the UMD's are cheaper than the cartridges to make so perhaps they will pass such savings onto the consumer (Especially if Joe W Consumer hates the idea of really high mobile games prices).
