14 million Xbox units need a new power cord
MSNBC is reporting that Microsoft has issued a recall of 14
million Xbox power cords. The cords have been overheating, causing burned skin and carpet. The company is promising the
cords within 2 weeks of the request. They advise you to turn off your console when not in use, in the meantime. That's
always a good thing to do, anyway, of course.

What the Xbox needs is a wireless power cord.

For all I've said about the PSPs defects, at least it won't burn your house down. Microsoft has had it fixed in new models for a year, so they had to know about it for that long. Why the hell has it taken them so long to recall the cords?
MSNBC can't even end the article without praising XBOX Live. God this is discraceful.

Chris, now THAT would be nice! Unfortunately, that would fall under the "truly innovative" category, which Microsoft just does not do...
For the meantime, I'll just use my Xbox power cable to keep me warm on those cold nights.

It appears this was written by Reuters which is not owned my Microsoft (that at least removes the intra-corporation bias). I suppose MSNBC could have tacked on the XBOX Live stuff at the end, but the (C) is still just in Reuters' name.

Now - will they replace the Xbox's that have mysteriously died (like mine)? I'm guessing this was caused by the faulty power cord, but if a new cord doesn't fix the problem then what???? Waiting for my new cord before i pass further judgement...

Yea, this still really doesn't even the score between xbox and ps2. How many millions of ps2's have had major faults that have required replacing of the ENTIRE UNIT, since it came out in 2001.

I just recieved my new power cable, it looks nothing like the picture on the joystiq main page. It looks just like my old, and apparently defective, power cable. I'm looking for an opinion here, was there a mixup, or is the picture on the main page wrong?
