Yes people, it's happening again.
Take-Two (Rockstar's parent company), Walmart, GameStop, and even Sony (for manufacturing the PS2) have all been named
in a $600 million lawsuit filed by the next-of-kin of two police officers that were shot and killed in Fayette,
Alabama. A third officer was also slain in the 2003 triple murder, which was carried out by Devin Thompson, 18,
after he was arrested and in the process of being booked for stealing a car. When apprehended, Thompson allegedly
told police, "Life is a video game. You've got to die sometime."
While it is certainly not our intention to offend the loved-ones of the deceased, we are growing tired of these
claims. It's unfortunate that so much energy is poured into blaming the entertainment industry. Violent
crimes of this nature were occurring long before video games, movies, and popular music (albums, radio, MTV, etc.) were
a part of our lives. Attacking these outlets isn't going to prevent (or decrease that rate of) these incidents,
and in my opinion, such action only undermines the great sacrifice those three officers made.
