Man, Engadget's been beating us to the punch on so
many of these stories it's not even funny. Peter Rojas, you are a madman of journalistic expertise. I totally
saw this earlier in the day, and then conveniently forgot about it. But I digress. Sony has finally gone and told us
what the price of a UMD movie will cost, and that price is (drumroll, please)... $19.99! Only now the big question is
whether this news is deserving of either a "woohoo!" or a "you are f%#@ing kidding me!" As we
speculated earlier this week, Sony is currently pricing
UMD movies similarly to DVDs region-for-region. Is this a good way for Sony to capitalize on the PSP's multimedia
functionality? Or is it just a shameless marketing ploy? Give us your opinions! Will this herald the coming revolution
of media convergence? Or is Sony just looking to make a quick buck?
Oh, and in other news, Sony also announced that the movie House of Flying Daggers will be the first movie to
be simultaneously released on UMD and DVD on April 19, and will retail for $28.95, oddly enough. Perhaps the UMD and
DVD come bundled in the same package? I'd do some
homework on the subject, but it's 2:30 a.m. Maybe I'll just ask
Liam to do it for me…
North American UMD movie pricing revealed! Oh, and another new title, too.
