Possible GT4 problems?

I power the ps2 on and it eventually goes to a black screen and then resets and won't show a disc in the machine.
Model no. SCPH-30003

GOT IT WORKED FINE THEN HANGED ON SUNDAY CUP ALL THE TIME WITH THE RED SPEEDO HANGING HAD TO RESET

THOUGHT IT WAS DISC CHANGED IT AT WHSMITH

NEW COPY DID THE SAME

CHANGED IT TOLD THEY HAD A FAULTY BATCH

NEXT COPY WOULDNT LOAD JUST GOES TO THE PS2 SCREEN AS IF NO GAME WAS IN

CHANGED IT AND AGAIN IT WONT LOAD

SO AM GIVING UP I THINK ALL MY OTHER GAMES WORK

PRO EVO, MANHUNT, FIFA, SAN ANDREAS

SEEMS STRANGED MY FIRST COPY WORKED FOR A WHILE, WILL TRY A LENS CLEANER

Has anybody noticed that when you load a car from memory card in 2 player split screen mode the damn driving aids are turned off ?
This means that you can spend hours in GT mode setting up a car and then it is no use at all for 2 player.
Also, after loading the player one car from memory card, any car selected from the standard arcade mode manufacturers also loses driving aids.
I have tired everything to rectify this - any help ?
Oh, and yes, there is no lap counter in split screen, it merely tells what lap you are on when you cross the start line. Give ne GT3 anyday.......

i have been experiencing the screen jitter/shake thing, i'm relieved to find out its not just my copy

I'm experiencing the same thing as 49 (Jay Steele). I win the first beginner series and, get the points and prize money and it hanges when going to present me with the little piece of crap car. No car ever shows up. Then, should I just advance past the screen, I'm presented with a black screen with the cursor on it. At this point it just hangs. Never had a problem with any other game. Bought this thing in 2001 as a part of the GT3 game pack they had. Poor QA Sony.

my friend has gt4 and ps2 model number 39001 (no mod chip) had the same problem. everytime he would put the game it, he would get a disk read error message. but between me and another friend we fixed it. what we did was take the system apart and did a major clean up of all the components inside by using a can of air to blow off all the dust. then we took a cotton swab and ever so gently cleaned the laser eye. we put it back together and low and behold gt4 worked. may i suggest giving it a try.

I started having problems on my series 7 model. It had already stopped reading my Action Replay CD, and started choking on GT.

What I did was put the small attachment on my vacuum cleaner and cleaned the PS2. Then, rather than take it apart, I put in this audio CD lens cleaner I have. Now the PS2 doesn't like it. Can't play audio CD's. However, I guessed (seemingly correctly) that the brushes would still clean the lens, whether it could play it or not.

Worked like a dream. No more GT4 issues, and on top of that, my ARMax CD now boots just fine.

screen jitters aside, last night's bug had me ready to flame some sony programmer (seemed intentional). I completed 5 of the 6 NA professional races, went to the supercar and won the first race then went back to the NA to rap up only to find that once the race started I HAD NO POWER! The engine would rev and cut out, allowing me to go about 4mph. I figured it was the viper, so I tried a few other cars on some other tracks and the same thing! rebooted a few times...SAME THING! (original unmodded PS2/new disc)

Today things seem back to normal...for now. If I had to start over (win ALL licenses etc) I would scream bloody murder...

Anyone run into something like this??

we have an scph 30004r ps2 with no mods and a recent head clean. I bought the gt4 may 12th and cannot get the ps2 to see the disc. The ps2 will play anything else I show it (over 30 games including san andreas and latest star war). I have had a refund from the shop and they said that this isn't a one off problem for them r/e gt4. I have no confidence to get another and find that doesn't work. Surely this fault should be sorted by now?

I have the model that came with GT3 (awesome game) in the red box. I recently borrowed GT4 from a friend to try it out. The PS Logo comes up and so does the Legal crap. Then nothing. Just black. So needless to say, I'm glad I borrowed it and didn't buy it. I have the same problem with Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow, doesn't load. Every other game works, including my newest edition Destroy All Humans. Gonna try to clean it I guess.

how do you load your cars in arcade mode?? i can't find it! plz help!

The jittering and shaking thing you guys are seeing is not so much a glitch. i mean, it is, but...GT4 was designed to be used on progressive scan moniters/tv's such as HDTV or high-res computer monitors. i play my ps2 thru a HD projector and GT4 (which used to do the jitter thing on my old tv) runs great, you guys would all be surprised how much better your 1080i games look on a decent screen. interlaced picture sucks!!

PS2 series 1 scph 30003, GT4 is fine until you have played the game to 36% the way through. Thats when I started getting problems. The speed dial that spins around between stages or games turns red. I took the disk back to the shop where I bought it, they were happy to replace the game. The new game fresh out of the selathane loaded fine. Excellent must have been something wrong with the disk. Until playing the game for around 3 months. The game does not load anymore.

my copy of gt4 worked fine for months after I bought it, then suddenly it would not load, the playstation 2 would not recognize it at all. All my other games work perfectly. so I took a Q-tip and put a little windex on the end and cleaned the lens with it. Now it works fine once again!

How about the caterham, not only can you not use it (why not? It's a damn road car for gods sake). But stick a supercharger on it, then go buy engine balancing, and watch you BHP go DOWN by 50. That's right, down. And you can't fix it unless you buy another caterham, and spend £100k tuning it back up again.

Have experienced the same problems as UKAnders (#53). I go back to options, turn on Traction Control (TCS) and go to race in 2 player split-screen and TCS is off again. Is this by design?
