If you can name the band who recorded that
song, award yourself a gold star. Then check out what's hot over in Japan at the moment. It's a little surprising in
spots. Though not the number one spot. Devil May Cry 3 is the top selling title right now.
The surprise comes in the fact that a mediocre wrestling game (Rumble Roses), a game whose main selling point is
digitally rendered girls in swimsuits beating the crap out of each other, is outselling the much vaunted Gran Turismo
4.
What does this tell us? That in Japan, women in swimsuits beating each other senseless are more popular than car
racing, I guess. It's a funny old world.

Ja, Alphaville. And now it's running through my head. Over. And. Over. Thanks.

I thought it was Guano Apes? Maybe they just did a cover though.

My first "Big in Japan" experience was the Robert Patton eurobeat song that appeared in Initial D 2nd Stage (the anime) and its accompanying music CD.
Since then, I've heard a song with that title by the Guano Apes as well.

There's more than one right answer to this one. Tom Waits definitely did a song by that title, and I can vividly remember my friends and I watching and commenting about a video from the 80's called Big in Japan, and although the artist's name escapes me, Alphaville sounds familiar. The Tom Waits version is better by most standards, although now I can't get the chorus of the 80's New Wave Big in Japan out of my head. Drat.

Just to add some kind of official answer from me, when I did the title, it was the Alphaville one that was in my head:)
