One speaker (Michael Pachter of Wedbush Morgan
Securities) at the "Positioning for Profitability in the Video Game Economy" conference we attended yesterday let
on that he had heard that Sony is working on a flavor of the PSP that includes an internal, 50-gigabyte hard
drive. A prototype of the new portable might be out by year-end, but mass production of the new device probably would
not happen until next year, he said. Could this mobile multimedia device viably challenge the iPod?
Rumor: PSP to Get 50 GB Hard Drive?

This would piss me off badly. I imported a PSP from Japan and I paid a lot of cash buying a 1gig memory stick pro duo. Comeon, it's unlikely sony will be doing this, also because they're ALREADY losing money on every psp sold. Comeon guys, be realistic.

Hey, I didnt read all of the posts, but anyone thought of an external clipon harddrive that has its own built in battery? It could even connect via the usb port, and connect to the dc out ports to get power if (when) its out of its built in battery, plus who says it has to be going at 7200 rpms, I mean youd only need like 5400 rpms to access music and movies at a pleasing rate. Im just sayin..

Hi, couldnt you just get an external hard drive for your psp, Surely you could connect the psp and the hard drive together the usb ports, You can buy very small external hard drives, you could probably just stick it on the back of you psp with no problems...

I want to know if sony will give out upgrades for the current psp at a reaonable price ($100?). I want to get the giga pack this christmas and it would suck if they turned around and released a newer psp with no way to upgrade mine a few monthes later.

I am Sick of people comparing the PSP to the DS. The PSP is by far a much better gaming device even without that stupid touch screen. Not to mention all the other 257.3 features the PSP has. So stop with the coparisons.

Hey guys,
I am new. Let me give you a scenario:
There will be 2 models:
1. Current PSP: $250 (which can still go on sale for years)
2. (A little thiner and smaller) PSP with 60GB (without UMD): $399 (buy games and movies from Sony's sites) (This one will kill Ipod)
Will you buy one? Will current PSP owners also buy the hard-drive version? If you are first time buyers, which one would you get?

i think that sony won't be creating the hard drive beacuse it is't quite made to be a pocket mp3 player and it wont be easy to have a headphone jack biting into your leg and if they do make it they will have to take the umd drive and memory sick drive out to make it still a portable and eventually hackers will be able to copy sonys games and movies off the psp to others and there will be a huge decrese in profit for sony.

Sony COULD gain massive market share by incorporating a 30 or 60 GB HD on the units. Size? The new viPod isn't so big and it has a 60GB drive...
UMD...Sony lost before on the Betamax front. I hope they LEARN to make something EVERYONE wants rather than say, "We could make a bunch here because we ALREADY own a large portion of the market..."
Try saying, "How can we improve what we have and get MORE market share..."
Just a few cents worth...

not true, ppl with a PSP with Homebrew (in other words, Hacked), it only accounts mabe 1% or less, or a little more than that out of all the ppl that own a PSP, so "Hacking the PSP" will not hurt Sony, yeah, they hate Homebrew cuz u can play ISO's, if ISO's did not exist, then Sony would not really care to run unsigned code on ur PSP, just my 2 cents :mr green:

It isn't Homebrew...
Why should I have to pay a premium for the Sony memory stick format? Why not SD cards?
Why not add a HD?
Sony appears mainly interested in protecting the revenue of other departments (film, music, memory cards/sticks) revenue rather than making an inroad in the media hardware market.
Why not allow emulators? Why not allow other hacks? With that screen, a HD, and SD card, they would have a larger market share. If people are willing to pay to watch TV on the viPod, imagine the screen difference on the PSP...Imagine if there was a PDA too! If they could only add a phone, I'd pay 5 bills.
Yes, a rant, but it pains me when I see the potential of the PSP and how it is being gutted...
