Always reliable, Kamalot, has the scoop on
(and a cry for help to understand) the puzzling new DS game, Electroplankton:
"[A] recently announced game for the Nintendo DS is a bit of a mystery. It appears to be a strange puzzle,
life-simulator, music instrument, trippy WinAmp visualization, game. Nintendo recently put up a site for the title that
includes some videos of the unique and innovative title (3rd bubble) and wallpaper (last bubble). Some of the videos
have classic Nintendo songs playing, apparently that you can play with through use of the touch screen. Can someone who
reads Japanese explain to the rest of us what this title is all about? It looks and sounds like nothing else I've ever
seen."
[Thanks Killa Kam!]

Wow, I just got done looking at the videos and im hella impressed. Electro plankton is like nothing I've ever seen. There seems to be no point to the game, its pure pure pure stimulation. Its crazy though cuz i mean, its got visuals and sounds working in unision in unexpected ways. Friggin NINTENDO..THIS IS WHY IM A FANBOY!!!

It looks really cool. I will give it that, but Nintendo has to show all of us why this is so much better than Geiss that it warrants paying for it.

When I read life-simulator I started thinking that it would be great to have a game like the dreamcast's seaman on the DS. With the built in Mic it would be the perfect match. Bring your foul mouthed bass/man/thing on the road with you.

The videos are embedded in the flash portion of the site.

Play around with it for a while. It really is something quite different.
I don't get a lot from watching the gameplay videos but I am impressed with the people playing the game. I'm not sure what is going on, but they all wear expressions on their face that transcends the language barrier. They are exploring, discovering and having a great time, oblivious to all else.

i didn't buy the DS to play eight different versions of Seaman, with dogs and plankton and stuff. i know the big N is getting all about innovative gaming, but come ON, give me something a little more action packed. seriously.

This isn't really a game - the genre Nintendo listed for it in the Flash app is "Media Art".
There are 10 types of "plankton" in the game, each of which responds to different stimuli (either "touch" - via the stylus - or sound) and produces sound/color/etc. in response. That's pretty much all there is to it; there isn't any other in-depth information on the site.
