It's not often that the print mags throw something worthy online. Online just rains on their ad parade, in theory.
But Star Trek fans rejoice, there's an interview on PC Gamer's site with Glen Dahlgren of Perpetual Entertainment -the
lead designer for Star Trek Online. The massively multiplayer game is at the start of the development process, and
Dahlgren makes that very clear. Still, the features he talks about sound great. You choose your position on the ship,
and move up (or not) from there. A highlight is when he discusses the team's proprietary MMOG engine:
"Its feature list is amazing, including unheard-of connectivity. Want to assign new missions from a cell
phone? How about check up on the progress of your crew via mission reports on the web?"
Stuff like this was discussed in SOE's Sovereign but, of course, that title never saw the light of day. Do
any other massively multiplayer games offer this? We think his claim that this is unique needs some of your trial by
fire.
