Paul Marino, Machinima aficionado, sent in a link to a Machinima music video he presented at Sundance. Machinima,
for those who don't know, is (according to archive.org) "filmmaking within real-time, 3D virtual environments,
often appropriated from existing video game engines." The clip is a good example of Valve's FacePoser tool. Well, we'll
let him explain it himself. Let's just say you'll never see G-Man the same again. Marino writes:
Recently I moderated a panel discussion about Machinima at the 2005 Sundance Film Festival. During this presentation,
I presented a clip from a Machinima music video I created in Half-Life 2. The video was filmed entirely inside of the
game as well as using Valve's new software FacePoser, to which the character G-Man sings lead (video links are towards
the bottom of the page). The music used in this piece is Breaking Benjamin's "So Cold."
While this is solely a personal project, it was created to show the independent filmmakers at Sundance what is capable
with Machinima currently and the years to come. I thought Joystiq readers would be interested in seeing how games (and
Machinima) are becoming a larger part of our entertainment landscape.
Yeah, this is actually a topic I, personally, don't know a hell of a lot about. Feel free to send links to
Machinima stuff when you see something that stands out.
