Lumines is the PSP game to have?
At the very least, it shouldn't be
ignored. Lumines is to PSP as Tetris is to Game Boy. It's that simple:

Am I the only one who finds this more than a little ironic?
PSP comes along with a big screen and 3D graphics processing. The game to get? A puzzle game that could easily be accomplished on lesser hardware.
Perhaps it is well liked because it is innovative intriguing and intuitive rather than a watered-down version of something that already appeared on the PS2?

Lumines is a "lowest common denominator" game. That is no slam against it - but you don't have to be a "gamer" to enjoy it.
If you're buying the PSP for its entertainment functions (video & music), then you're most likely going to buy Lumines over Untold Legends or Wipeout Pure.
Tetris was a monster - this is Tetris2 with a J-Pop soundtrack.

Would a non-gamer really pick up a PSP? Is there anyone that foolish?
Codejoy @ Dec 18th 2005 9:58PM
Plus im sure it was a great way for the developers to get a handle on all the new hardware/tech.

Well...this is the first game that I have pre-ordered. I will get others later on down the road once I convince my friends to buy a PSP so we can have some ad-hoc multiplayer action.

zero interest here. my must-have game is Wipeout Pure. i'm also ordering THUG2 Remix, and Tiger Woods.

I defend Nintendo a lot with this sentence, but it applies here: there is nothing wrong with making games that everyone can enjoy. Why does everyone have to qualify their praise for a good game that attracts a different audience?
Yes, it's on the PSP, and yes, it is a puzzle game, so what? Good games do not have to stretch graphical limits or have intense, thought-provoking plotlines. They can, but they don't have to. Good games can also be made for systems you don't like.
"Plus im sure it was a great way for the developers to get a handle on all the new hardware/tech."
Maybe, just maybe, Mizuguchi wanted to make a good puzzle game. Every video game doesn't have to be in pursuit of a photo-realistic goal.

I bought a PSP at the Japanese launch and picked up Ridge Racers, Metal Gear Acid, Everybody's Golf Portable, and Lumines.
I agree with Joystiq on this one. Lumines has the highest replay value of all of the games I have. It's totally addictive and really isn't a waste of the PSP at all. The graphics are good - but the sound and game play are great. The music is really solid and the way it's integrated into the game play is awesome. It kills flight time like no other. You put on headphones and just get totally sucked in. Very addictive.

I second the last comment. While I have played an awful lot of all of the games I've bought for the PSP (what a great platform!), Lumines is by far the most addictive and challenging, and it does not "waste" the platform.

I'm sorry, but I just can't into any game--PSP or DS--that is nothing more than a knock-off of the genius that was Tetris.
Paperless @ Dec 18th 2005 9:58PM
Im not wasting 50 euros on that when i can have that kind of games on my n-gage...
PSP has almost PS2 graphics remember?
Darius Young @ Dec 18th 2005 9:58PM
You can only play Tetris for so long... knock-offs change things up a bit. Even though Tetris may be a better game I would gladly put it down to play another game download.
