First pic of the Xbox 2/360? Allard looms over little silver box

Either someone has a very deft hand with their cell phone camera, or this is a good fake (or it's a really nice surge protector). Pengo sends in this shot of Allard standing over a small silver box that could be the next Xbox. It has the rounded look that we've heard about, and seems sexy enough from a distance. Let's start taking a look at the shadows underneath the device. It's a great way to spend a Saturday!

UPDATE: Our buds over at Engadget have laid the smack down on this one. They say the box is a decoy. Their source promised that the real deal is much nicer.

Yeah, this was probably taken at GDC. Allard is wearing the same outfit I saw him in on Thursday. Wait a second, Allard is always wearing the same outfit...

If you notice in the blown up picture that was posted in #1, both the Prototype XBox is shown (Far right), the current xbox is shown (Far left), and the screen seems to read "Microsoft Confidential."

In responce to #5, if the next gen console also has XBox in it's title, then it makes sense for the XBox brand to be shown. Whatever that box is does have a cirular shape, lending to the idea of the "XBox 360" name.

As for me, I have no clue which console is going to win next round. I actually think big N still has a chance.

I believe the handle doubles as an antenna for the Wi-Fi radio. So that you can connect the beast to Xbox Live without a wireless bridge.

#7: I thought it said Confidential but couldn't make out the first word. At first I thought it could have said Wireless Communication...

I think that thing is jsut like a carrying case. not the true next xbox, but its a way to show the power of it to other people while not revealing hat it will really look like. Like in those car comercials where they have all that crap on a smaller car. I could be wrong, it may just be a developers kit like others say, but thats my idea for this ugly big box.

take a close look at the base of the flat panel display near Allard, notice the green arrow/symbol, it matches the one found on the
edge of the desk directly below the papers; coincidence, hint, sign of an incredibly good fake?

oh, and about the green light "similarity" - i think, that the green LED (let's take it for that) came out in that shape because of the person's movement of hand when he took the pic. both LEDs will look distorted in the same way, because of the guy's hamd movement.
I may be wrong though...

and i still think its a DK...

That image circled on the right (with a question mark relating to it) was/is the original metal X shape prototype that most were hoping would be the real thing when produced.
The other IS a prototype design of XB2, but I'll aly odds on that it's NOT going to be the one produced, nor will the one that is manufactured look remotely like it.
For a start, it won't be silver/white (Sony/Apple territory there), but will be the standard black & green. And no I haven't forgotten the limited edition Japan only white XBox - that was purely for the Japanese market as they have a thing about the colour white, esp. their mobile phones anyway, and designed to gain MS credibilty and acceptance in a market they've totally misread or simply failed in (to date) by comparison to the US (obviously to a certain degree) and Europe.

I took the picture into photoshop and started measuring angles and the such...the grey box on the table is an optical illusion from the glare of Allard's skull. Additionally Molly Ringwold is just an illusion due to the hand movement of the camera, note how the head of hair next to hers is identical except color.
