It was mentioned a while back, and now comes apparent confirmation that next gen titles will
retail
for a stupidly high $60 US. The structure
for pricing seems to be taking a two tier approach, with alleged AAA titles, you know, like Driv3r *cough*, being set
at this new gouging price point, whereas regular games will gouge slightly less. This structure is set up due to the
supposed cost increase in developing for the next generation consoles. THQ admit their childrens titles won't support
such a high price, which to me indicates the industry know damn well they're gouging.
And they wonder why software piracy rates are so high. This stinks of little more than profiteering on the back of new
technology. If someone can produce any evidence that development costs are that much higher on the next gen systems, we
here at Joystiq would like to see it.
