Is this REALLY a PERFECT title like 1up and Game Informer imply?

"The only part of the control scheme that isn't as user friendly is the evade technique...It's a small complaint, but it's interesting how this part of the control scheme is rigid when the rest is so fluid."

That means it shouldn't get a perfect 10.

There is a big difference between a great game and a perfect game.

I'm not buying it when they tell me this is as good as GameCube or Xbox games look...

http://ps2media.ign.com/ps2/image/article/596/596778/god-of-war-20050318074320937-000.jpg

While this may be the pinacle of PS2 graphics, as many of these reviewers claim, this is a far cry from looking as good as a top-notch Xbox or GameCube title.

And the blood/nudity means it isn't coming into my home.

Granted I know next to nothing about the game, and I'm only going off of media I've seen in passing (like the pic above).

I just think I would have a hard time getting into a game where the main character looks like a WWE reject. It looks like a joke to me. And the more game developers use the M rating, the more I think they have no clue what mature really means.

I hadn't heard of God of War until a demo disk showed up in the mail. I'll definatly be picking up a copy. ^__^

Nicholas: The ESRB ratings do not specify the content, only who the content is appropriate for. The M rating doesn't mean the content is mature, only that it is deemed unsuitable for younger audiences.

What's amazing is that it supports 480p and 16:9. I'm always surprised at what developers are able to squeeze out of the PS2 even today.

A "10" rating doesn't necessarily mean "perfection," but rather it means that this is the pinnacle of gaming in its genre; a shining example for other games to aspire to. Judging from the obvious high quality of the demo that I played, that could be an accurate assessment.

The demo showed great promise, especially the rich graphics (breathtaking from both a technical and artistic perspective) and finely-tuned fighting engine. Stringing together attacks to form huge combos is very fun. Some of the posters above (particularly Kalas and Nicholas) should consider playing the game (or at least the demo) before passing judgment.

The game does bear an M rating for good reason, but if you can handle the subject matter, then you'll definitely want to give this game a try.
